22-Year-Old Cyclist Killed In Route 206 Crash Was Recent NYU Swimmer

Damian Baranowski, a 22-year-old cyclist from Pennsylvania, was killed while riding his bicycle in New Jersey, authorities said.

Baranowski was on the right shoulder of Route 206 north in Sandyston Township when a Nissan passenger vehicle entered the roadway, crashed into the back of the bicycle, and veered off the roadway, colliding with a utility pole and overturning around 2:50 p.m. Saturday, June 29, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.

Baranowski, of Milford, PA died while the driver of the Nissan, a 21-year-old Bronx woman, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, Lebron said.

According to his obituary on the Stroyan Funeral Home website, Baranowski had recently graduated from New York University, where he was on the swim team, with a degree in economics. In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, including hiking, climbing, swimming, camping and golfing, his obituary reads.

He is survived by his parents Marek and Marzena, his sister Karolina and numerous friends and family, according to his obituary.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at Saint Vincent De Paul Church in Milford.
